PDF reader inserts spaces between characters in Japanese annotations
Zotero 6.0.37
MacOS 14.3.1 (23D60)
I noticed this behavior in previous Zotero 6 iterations as well, but Zotero's PDF reader inserts spaces between two-byte characters in Japanese PDFs when annotating. Might also be true for other double-byte character sets (Chinese, Korean), but I have not verified this.
Example:
Acrobat gets this right.
Mac-only apps (Preview, Skim, Safari) insert a few extraneous spaces.
Chrome and Firefox have similar issues, and are definitely worse than any of the apps above.
However, Zotero is alone in inserting spaces between almost all characters.
Given that the rendering is all over the place, is it safe to assume that this is a problem with PDFs and not with Zotero, and that there's therefore little chance of seeing a change in the future?

Perhaps someone else can try this, though?
What are the problems of Zotero 7 beta aside from plugin issues?
I reported several issues with the beta here in the forums. It was recommended that I roll back to Z6 and not participate in the beta, so nothing additional to report.
