Duplicate Author Metadata When Using "Add Item By Identifier"

Hello -

I'm a university librarian, and one of my patrons has brought an interesting issue to me. When they import an item using the magic wand "Add Item By Identifier" button near the top of the Zotero window, it seems to be importing extraneous metadata. Specifically, it will create additional author entries with different permutations of the same author name - first, last; last, first; last, MI, first; etc. I can't duplicate the behavior on my own instance of Zotero.

Has anyone else experienced this? It seems to be happening to their entire library. Is there a way to have Zotero re-import all the metadata for a library to correct all my patron's items in a batch?

    We've just seen one other example of a.bibliography that suggested this might have happened,.but I can't replicate this either, nor would I have any idea what could cause it --- we'd want to hear from the user directly, ideally.

    I think there's a newish add-on (Zotero linter or so?).that can update metadata. Nothing built in
