Unexpected Behavior for screen reader when highlighting text to read in VoiceOver on macOS
I love that Zotero 7.0.0 has .epub and .html annotation/reader support, and that is why I updated. Prior to 7, Zotero did a good job sending click-and-drag selections made with the mouse to the screen reader for me to listen to playback. Some of this is broken in the new version. For context: I have visual processing needs, so I can see the screen and I use the mouse to precisely highlight sections of text for my screen reader to read.
First, in PDFs:
Immediately after I activate the screen reader, the first paragraph I highlight will read out normally, but then when I highlight a section after that, it re-reads that first paragraph. Then, if I highlight something else entirely after that, it will read the previously-selected paragraph.
Basically after selecting paragraphs A, B, C, D, Zotero reads back A, A again, B, C which is weird.
In epub/HTML files:
As soon as I click and start to drag, the screen reader receives the text that has just finished highlighting in one tick of the screen reader's input window. This makes it difficult to read the paragraph as I need to be constantly moving the mouse to keep pace with the screen reader. (In contrast, in PDFs Zotero waits until the mouse is released to send the selected text as one continuous phrase to the screen reader).
