Unable to rename profile

I've just moved to a new computer and am setting up Zotero on it. I have more than one Zotero profile, and want to rename the one labeled "default." When I click "Rename Profile," it brings up the Rename Profile dialog, then immediately covers it with an Error dialog containing this message:

It has a "Check for Update" button at the bottom. If I click it or try to close the window, it closes all three windows.

If, instead, I move this out of the way to reveal the Rename Profile dialog, and I change the profile name, the name change is undone by any activity with the Error dialog after that.
