Automate "Cited" Date on Bibliography

edited February 28, 2024
Is there a way to make a macro to be implemented in the bibliography section of a CSL file wherein it can automatically put the date cited on the document [GDocs, Word, etc..] you're working on when it is generated? The citation style I work with requirres the date being cited.

Example:

Current Format:

Zaki, M.A., Salem, M.E.-S., Gaber, M.M. & Nour, A.M. 2015. Effect of Chitosan Supplemented Diet on Survival, Growth, Feed Utilization, Body Composition & Histology of Sea Bass (Dicentrarchus Labrax). World Journal of Engineering and Technology [Internet]. 03(04): 38–47. Available from: https://doi.org/10.4236/wjet.2015.34C005.

Required format:

Zaki, M.A., Salem, M.E.-S., Gaber, M.M. & Nour, A.M. 2015. Effect of Chitosan Supplemented Diet on Survival, Growth, Feed Utilization, Body Composition & Histology of Sea Bass (Dicentrarchus Labrax). World Journal of Engineering and Technology [Internet]. [cited 2024 February 29]; 03(04): 38–47. Available from: https://doi.org/10.4236/wjet.2015.34C005.

By cited, I might something different from the accessed variable which one needs to change manually instead
  • I'm pretty sure you're misunderstanding this: "Cited" in these types of styles refers to "The latest date of update/revision should therefore be included along with the date cited, i.e., the date the person doing the citing saw the item on the Internet." (see https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/books/NBK7269/ ) i.e. what's otherwise called the accessed date.
There's no way to include the current date in a citation, no, but that's also really not what's intended here, nor is it a meaningful standard.
  • Thanks for the clarification.
