Unable to input a citation using Zotero or to see nearly any of the entries in my large library.

I just tried to create a footnote using WORD and got the following message: Zotero could not load the component necessary to communicate with your word processor. Go to Tools ->Add-ons -> Extensions in Zotero and make sure that the extension for your word processor is enabled.
I followed these instructions, but only got notes saying these were disabled, but there isn't any link to reverse that.
Meanwhile, I'm unable to use Zotero. I have a new Dell Latitude, but I believe I have already updated Zotero.
