Corrupted in-text citation starting in the middle of word document

Hi there,
When I opend my thesis word document this morning, I found my in-text citations corrupted. The issue start in the middle of the document in the footnotes. I already tried using Alt+F9 as well as the check whether the 'show field codes instead of their values' was ticked in word (it was not). I do not want to delet all the corrupted parts, since this would also delet my footnotes.

Does anyone know what else I could do about this issue?

What do you mean by "corrupted"? Can you provide a screenshot?

Yeah, that's just the Word field codes. You should be able to right-click on it and select Toggle Field Codes.

It goes on like this on the following pages. I also cannot see where the current footnote ends and the next footnote starts (i.e., the following footnote numbers are not visible in the footer)

Do you mean right-click on the corrupted parts? This does not work. I cannot toogle filed codes.

Oh right, Word's Toggle Field Codes context-menu option doesn't actually appear in footnotes for some odd reason. Alt-F9 should work to toggle these, but you should be able to click within the code and press Shift-F9 to toggle just that field.

If that's not working, it's possible you saved the document in some way that broke the fields.

OK, I'm afraid those do indeed appear to be corrupted — the actual Word field codes are now showing up as plain text. Hard to say how that happened, but it looks like this document has been handled by other people, so it's possible that it got saved in some way that broke some citations, though the vast majority of your citations seem to be intact.

If you don't have a backup of an earlier version — in which case you could copy and paste — I'm afraid you'll need to delete and reinsert these particular citations.
