Syncing problem

Greetings - I had to replace my laptop and am trying to use the syncing feature, but it's not working. Any insight? Thank you!
  • If I have reached my storage quota, does that prevent syncing? That is the only thing I see that might be wrong.
  • You'll need to say what the actual problem is that you're experiencing. See Steps to Reproduce for the kind of description we need.

In general, though, see Changes Not Syncing.
  • Report I.D. 1420208919: On the new laptop, I have installed Zotero and Chrome connector. I opened the app and clicked "Set up syncing" in the middle pane and went through the steps. However, when I click "OK," it doesn't sync, and when I try to sync using the manual icon or right-clicking my library, it does not sync.
  • I got the report ID above after trying to close the app and re-opening it. I have Zotero version 6.0.30, Windows 11 OS
  • What does "it does not sync" mean, though? What exactly happens?

Again, though, see Changes Not Syncing for what to check and what information we'd need to help further.
  • Trying again - From the laptop that is being replaced, I can see my library in Zotero. When I click the green sync arrow, it rotates for a few seconds then stops and I have a yellow triangle icon next to it that tells me I've exceeded storage limit. When I look at my online library, nothing is there - 0MB used. On the new computer, when I hit the green arrow, it rotates for a few seconds then stops with no error message. I imagine that is because there is nothing in the web library for it to pull down. How do I get my library to upload, or at least up to 300 MB of it?

One more time, you'll need to follow the Changes Not Syncing steps and provide the requested info if you're still having trouble. We have no other way of helping you.

But it sounds like you're just syncing with a different account, which is also covered on that page. There's no data in the account you're posting from, as you can see yourself in the online library.
  • I have done all the steps in "Changes not syncing." Not 2 different accounts. The problem is with uploading from the old computer, the computer where my Zotero files are stored. It is failing; only works about 5 minutes at a time. I described the problem above. I just tried again and got the same result. Report #1100819533. Do not tell me to go to Changes not syncing again, thanks.

  • You are syncing with a different account.
  • You're not following step 6 on that page, at a minimum, that's why you keep getting asked to follow the instructions.

But it's virtually certain that if you're getting an out of storage message in the desktop software when trying to sync and see 0% usage online, you're not looking at the same account. Check for additional punctuation or other minor differences in username.
  • Not helpful. Step 6 report ID is above. I only have one Zotero account. When I go to forum from Help menu, my account opens up. I have logged out and back in. I am only trying to get the old computer to sync to Zotero storage right now. I'll worry about pulling it down to the new laptop when that is resolved. Thank you.
  • Sorry, I overlapped with your previous message -- see dstillman above. Check the sync tab of the Zotero preferences of the computer you're syncing for your the username you are syncing with

@mfong319: Why are you possibly arguing with us about this? I have looked at your debug output — you are syncing with a different username with a different email address. You created them in different months. One has data and the other does not. This is truly bizarre behavior.
  • dstillman: Have a little mercy and give a little grace instead of assigning intent where there is none. I honestly did not realize I created two different accounts and you did not come out and clearly state that before now. I am not a computer expert and am just trying to figure out a problem on top of the many others I have had with my computer this week. I apologize if I sounded short. A little radical empathy on your part would be awesome. Thank you & have a great night.
  • adamsmith: Thank you for trying to help me. I will work on this on my own and come back to the forum if needed. Enjoy your evening/day.
