univesal identifier
I got a suggestion for a universal identifier for zotero entries, and I think it could be done with a zotero-plugin.
What about adding a little file to a zotero entry that contains all necessary information (zotero-user-code and zotero-item-code) together with a central time server timestamp of the last edit, this information could be synced with a simple mysql database adding the username of the up loader.
If you now share the reference together with this file the only things the plug-in would have to do is (in case the word plug-in doesn’t finds a valid citation) to sync the local “global-identifiers” with the mysql database disable the outdated global identifiers (identified by the timestamp), notify the user about changes (who changed it) and if he finds a valid “global-identifier” translate it to the local one.
..I think it should not be too hard to realise such a plug-in.
Ps: Of cause there must be defined an update routine for changes made in entries with “global identifiers”.
