Zotero Tab has empty label, buttons non-responsive - Word 2312

Hey all,

I have gotten back to writing some publications after a few months off. My Zotero tab in Word is unlabelled and all buttons are on responsive. I have tried all of the troubleshooting steps listed on this page: https://www.zotero.org/support/word_processor_plugin_troubleshooting. I have tried deleting the zotero.dotm manually. Installing the plugin from Zotero 6 or 7 beta is always reported to be successful, but the plugin never works. The zotero.dotm file shows up again after I reinstall the plugin.

Trust centre macro settings are as follows in screenshots below:

If I "Disable all macros with notification" I get no notifications.

Zotero debug console output is as follows:

I am running Windows 11 22H2, with Word 365 2312 Build 16.0.17126.20132. Virtualisation-based security is disabled.
  • Bump! Please help me.

    Thanks.
  • If you open Zotero.dotm directly with Word does the Zotero tab work?
  • Thanks adomasven.

No. If I open Zotero.dotm directly, the tab still appears unlabelled and the buttons do not work.
  • I will add that this same problem is occurring on two of my systems. My second system runs Windows 11 23H2 and Word 365 2312 Build 16.0.17126.20132.

If even a manually opened Zotero.dotm doesn't receive a label and you receive no alerts or notifications from Word about macros, then something in your system configuration is preventing Macros from running in Word. This wouldn't affect just Zotero and you will have to figure that our for yourself. Generally we recommend users to troubleshoot configuration issues by creating a new Windows User Account, but if you see the exact same behavior on two of your systems, it may not be just user configuration, and may be related to some software you run.
