we need a PLoS online/DOI citation style
There seems to be no style for the DOI only variant of the PLoS bibliography style yet.
PLoS ONE is an online only, general science journal. In 2009, over 4000 articles were published there, making PLoS ONE the 3rd largest scientific journal in the world and the one with the highest growth rate. Bottom line, there'll be a big demand for a zotero CSL bibliography style.
The traditional PLoS format is (this includes PLoS ONE):
Sanger F, Nicklen S, Coulson AR (1977) DNA sequencing with chain-terminating inhibitors. Proc Natl Acad Sci U S A 74: 5463–5467.
(no more than 5 authors, then et al.)
But more interestingly, they also allow the use of DOI instead of the traditional volume:page format. I think this style is more useful already since it's safe to say there's no scientist any more who searches for the majority of this paper by volume:page.
Jiang, J.C. et al. (2000) An intervention resembling caloric restriction prolongs life span and retards aging in yeast. FASEB J. DOI: 10.1096/fj.00-242fje (http://www.fasebj.org)
There is a PLoS Medicine CSL in the repository (http://www.zotero.org/styles/plos-medicine/dev). Also, there is a thread here on the forum that talks about a possible error in this file: http://forums.zotero.org/discussion/8245/errors-in-lancet-and-plos-medicine-style/ but the problems seems to have been solved.
If all PLoS journals do indeed use the same style, the PLoS Medicine CSL should be renamed to PLoS all journals.csl and a variant like PLoS DOI only.csl should be created.
