Password for Zotero

I would like to use Zotero on a computer at work, but I don't want other people to see or modify my library.

Is there some way that I can use password protection on that computer, but not add complications to using Zotero on my own computers?
  • Zotero does not, by itself, offer any encryption support. All three supported operating systems have provisions that allow you to encrypt your home directory. Alternatively, you can use something like a truecrypt volume on any of the operating systems.
  • I don't know what would happen if someone clicked on Zotero and it tried to sync to/from an encrypted directory.

Perhaps the best thing would be to install a portable version of Firefox on my work computer and hope no one considers it a violation of policy. It should be fairly easy to do so that no one notices.
  • could you set up a separate firefox profile with password and run Zotero in your own profile? It depends on the level of security you need - if this is a protection against negligent and/or stupid co-workers ;-) this should do. If you are concerned about actual data theft it wont and you'll have to use the portable solution or one of the options noksagt mentions.

I have never done this, but I'm pretty sure it's possible.
