Extracting article metadata to become a Zotero Entry, without making a local PDF copy

Hi, the method of dragging a pdf (s) into a zotero library to obtain the pdf's metadata creates an attachment with a copy of the pdf file in the zotero folder.

Is there a way to do the extraction process and create a zotero entry, but without creating a pdf copy?

You can use "Link to File" under the Green plus icon or the equivalent modifier key + drag operation and then extract. You'd still get an entry for the PDF in Zotero, but it'd be a link to a file that's on your harddisk anyway.
