Ghost reference won't go away?
Zotero keeps adding a bibliography entry into my document for a source paper that does not exist on my computer anymore. I deleted it from Zotero and from my computer, emptied the recycle - it's gone. The source in question was a book chapter in an edited book but it was the incorrect format, incorrectly referenced etc. I have since found the correct source of the book (and thus chapter) online which I am now using. Zotero adds the correct reference in my document, but also the incorrect one. I have deleted all citations in my document and refreshed the bibliography to check what would happen, and then the correct one disappears, but the incorrect one stays, despite there being no mention of the author in my document, and the faulty PDF not on my computer anymore. I have no idea what's going on and as I need to submit this paper for publication soon, it is imperative I fix it.
I have older drafts of this paper on my computer where the incorrect source is still likely there, do I need to delete those? I would find that very strange though. The problem is that the publication version uses Chicago style and the other one (for my PhD dissertation) APA, so I need to keep my APA version intact as formatting between styles is a nightmare in itself. In my APA version I have also redone the citation to reflect the correct one, and the same issue arises.
I am not a tech person so complex language on fields and codes need to be explained in simple language please. I don't even know if I'm explaining it correctly. Any help would be appreciated!!

adomasvenThere is likely a reference to the old item cited in your document somewhere, without any text. Generally the underlying reference should get deleted when you remove the text of a citation, but sometimes Word keeps it. To fix this, you should toggle the display of Word Field Codes, then use the Find command to search for the entry that shouldn't be there, and delete the full field code associated with it from your document, then you can toggle the display of field codes off, refresh the document with Zotero and the entry should disappear.
