Relations embedded in the text ( like [[ ]])?

I’m pondering whether I can use Zotero as a note manager or if I should resort to a markdown manager like Obsidian, Standard Notes or Joplin (which I would prefer out of love for Janis).

Zotero has most of the features that I need: I use it since long as a reference manager, I can take notes without quitting it, it offers a good balanced way of structuring your work thanks to collections and tags. It gives you the possibility of creating relationships between notes as well as between notes and other items.

Here is however its Achilles's heel, at least as long as I’d like to work - or there is?
Maybe I just couldn’t find the Holy Grails that I’m searching for.

As far as I understand, when you write a note, you can insert in the middle of the text links to Web URLs. On the other side you can link your note to any item that is in the same library using the “Related” tab.

But is it also possible to insert this kind of link, that is a link to another note or to an item of your library, in the middle of the text, in a similar way to what one can do in Obsidian or in Wikipedia? I mean the thing that one does through marking a part of one’s text with a double square bracket [[ ]]?

Thank you for your wisdom and expertise.
  • Yes, there is the possibility. There is a plugin called Zotero Better Notes. This plugin offers bi-directional linking between notes. It doesn't use brackets in the text and it doesn't offer a way to link other than linking to a specific workspace note (as far as I understand.)
  • Thank you.

By "linking to a specific workspace note" you mean linking to a note which is in the same library?
  • You can check out Zotero Better Notes documentation or Youtube videos for specific uses. I don't think I can explain how it works by just writing it down.
