Indexing of stored/linked text files

It would be REALLY convenient to include simple text files in the index, either stored or linked. txt, rtf, doc, etc...

    txt files are indexed. rtf and doc is a plugin issue mostly - there is nothing open source at the same level of convenience as pdftotxt .
