Google docs citations say "Updating" but never show citation

I am using Google docs on Safari on a mac.
When I enter a citation using Zotero it never enters the citation- it just says puts "updating".
If I click on the updating text I get this message:
Selected field PRqG8z not returned from Docs backend.
I tried the other advice I found in forums- the enable google docs thing is ticked in advanced.
Any ideas?

    Make sure the citation dialog isn't just appear behind your other windows. That's the most likely cause of this. The citation dialog window is part of the Zotero app.

    If you're sure it's not that, disable all your browser extensions and reload Google Docs, and then try again.

    I tell a lie, it works now. Not sure why. I reloaded it multiple times, deleted the foot note and then tried again after re-installing the connector and now it works. Yay!
