I have a problem with retrieve metadata - downloaded item

I often use the iPad and from there I upload the downloaded files to Zotero.

Once upon a time when I opened the Mac it "screened" all the files and find the parent items and rename the files.

Now this no longer happens, although in the settings there is a toggle on automatically rename and identify parental items.

Any suggestion?

No, that's never happened automatically. You can right-click and choose Retrieve Metadata for PDF.

A future version of the iOS app will try to retrieve metadata for PDFs itself, but for now you have to run this manually on the desktop if you save PDFs directly.

Note that, when possible, you should always save from the article page, including on iOS, and it will automatically save a parent item and download the file if available.

I literally love Zotero and am an active and satisfied supporter of the software.
Still in this regard, however, I have a further question: when I upload a PDF file from the browser, many times the iOS app identifies the parent link and automatically saves the link (and not the PDF).
Considering that I need the PDF to then study and underline it, is it possible to avoid this event and save only the PDF and not the link?
Thank you for your excellent work
