Zotero stalls while adding highlight

This discussion was created from comments split from: Hi zotero slow.
  • I have the same issue. Anything I highlight makes stalls Zotero for a few seconds before the highlighted portion is shown on the annotations column.

    I'm running 7.0.0-beta.52+2f8e536f2 (64-bit) on Linux.
  • @uderecife Not the same issue
  • Thank you for replying. Can you explain why you say it isn't?

Maybe my description fails in connecting the dots. That's totally on me.

When I say 'I highlight', it's not the highlighting per se that stalls Zotero. It's when I give it a color. When I say "before the highlighted portion is shown", it's not the showing in the annotations column, but the making it selectable so I can manipulate it in any meaningful way (tagging it, for instance). Thus... Zotero "Zotero is taking [too] long to insert citation".

You're talking about making annotations in the reader, which has nothing to do with inserting citations in a word processor, which is what the other person was talking about. I've moved this to a new thread. You should almost always start a new thread when posting here.

Is this happening for PDFs specifically? Any PDF? After restarting Zotero? After restarting your computer? Does it happen with all plugins disabled? Can you provide a Debug ID for reproducing this?
  • Oh, thank you so much for taking the time to explain the jargon. I'm from the school of practice that recommends to search first before posting a new thread. Now I know. Thank you.

It happens in every file, even in ePubs. Restarts make no difference, either of Zotero or the computer. It just happens. I highlight, choose color, and then wait. I've just tested with an ePub (and a small file).

    Debug ID: D585516851
  • You have multiple plugins still enabled in that debug output.
  • Thanks for pointing that out, i.e., that I still have multiple plugins enabled. It must be tiring to have people pointing the fingers at you when so much noise is being introduced by the plugins themselves. Sorry for that.

I'm one of today's lucky 10000 (cf. XKCD).

Anyway, the problem is definitely from a plugin. I disabled them all and, voilĂ , the problem is gone. So all good on Zotero's front. :)

My apologies for adding to the noise, and not the signal. Thank you, dstillman.
