Only some PDFs are synced despite unlimited storage

Hi,

through my institution, I receive unlimited storage. However, only parts (some 8GB) of my library's PDFs sync from my personal laptop to the web library and, consequently, my work computer. This concerns mostly, though not exclusively, older PDFs (the cut-off seems to be August 1, 2019 though some older PDFs are synced). For these older attachments, a transparent attachment symbol is shown, and when I try to open it, there is either no reaction at all (web library) or I receive an error message that "the attached file could not be found at the following path" (work computer). Any idea why only parts of my library's attachments are synced?

  • So they are on your personal laptop but neither on the web library nor on the work PC, correct?
    See https://www.zotero.org/support/kb/files_not_syncing -- you can start at 3., treating your personal laptop as "Device A"
    This will likely fix it, but if it doesn't closely follow the error reporting requested in steps 5 or 8 (depending on which applies)
  • Thank you for your help! I managed to make it work after all. I believe it had something to do with the fact that my Zotero storage folder was backed up to my Google Drive. I undid that and then did Step 5. Now everything is in the Zotero cloud. Thanks again -- this makes my life much easier!
