Zotero 7: arXiv submission version is ignored

Consider the below article:

https://arxiv.org/abs/1202.1212v2

This links specifically to the second submission (v2). When using the magic wand (Add Item(s) by Identifier) with either the arXiv ID (arXiv:1202.1212v2) or the URL (https://arxiv.org/abs/1202.1212v2) for this specific version, the resulting entry appears to be for the latest version (v3). The URL in the resulting entry drops the v2 from the end, and the PDF and snapshots are also for v3.

Is there support for adding specific arXiv submission versions?

The result of importing an arXiv article depends on how you import it. If you want to get the PDF file for v2, you can import it from the browser using the Zotero Connector (arXiv.org) on the page https://arxiv.org/abs/1202.1212v2. But you will still get the metadata for the latest version, arXiv:1202.1212, corresponding to v3 (exept the date, which is for v2).

I usually prefer saving a separate item for each version, as you describe. At the moment, the only way I have found to do that is to edit the metadata manually for each version after importing the PDF file.

For example, if the title has changed between versions, you get the surprising result of importing an item in you library with a different title from the one on the webpage, and with a title inconsistent with the version and the date saved on the item.
- From the page of v1 https://arxiv.org/abs/2111.10868v1 with title "Shear jamming in colloidal drop impact", you will get:
Shah, P., Arora, S., & Driscoll, M. M. (2021). Coexistence of solid and liquid phases in shear jammed colloidal drops (arXiv:2111.10868; Version 1). arXiv. https://doi.org/10.48550/arXiv.2111.10868
- But from page of the latest version https://arxiv.org/abs/2111.10868, you will get:
Shah, P., Arora, S., & Driscoll, M. M. (2022). Coexistence of solid and liquid phases in shear jammed colloidal drops (arXiv:2111.10868). arXiv. https://doi.org/10.48550/arXiv.2111.10868

You can try also importing from the browser an arXiv paper that has a final publication information on it (for example: https://arxiv.org/abs/2211.06488v2). You will get:
- The PDF file of v2: https://arxiv.org/pdf/2211.06488v2.pdf
- The URL of the latest arXiv version (corresponding to v3): http://arxiv.org/abs/2211.06488
- The metadata (including DOI and year) of the final publication:
Skolar, C. R., Bradshaw, K., Juno, J., & Srinivasan, B. (2023). Continuum kinetic investigation of the impact of bias potentials in the current saturation regime on sheath formation. Physics of Plasmas, 30(1), 012504. https://doi.org/10.1063/5.0134656

Note that in that case, you can use the arXiv DOI (10.48550/arXiv.2211.06488) to get the arXiv metadata but as a Journal Article item instead of a Preprint, while the arXiv ID (arXiv.2211.06488) will give you the metadata of the final publication (except the URL).
