Can't sync

I have my stuff on a windows PC. I purchased storage so that I could sync to my Mac. Everything is syncing to the default location on the PC and it is accessible on the online account as well. I tried everything. Here is the Debug ID:

You're using the Zotero 7 beta on the other computer and created EPUB annotations, which aren't supported in Zotero 6. You'll need to use the Zotero 7 beta on this computer as well to fully sync.

You don't say exactly what's happening, but you should be getting a message that says "Some data in My Library could not be downloaded. It may have been saved with a newer version of Zotero."
  • Thanks, I am up and running. Installing the Mac Beta worked.

The only remaining problem is, when I upgraded, my storage read 300 MB. Minutes after I upgraded (to the 2GB plan), it reads 2019MB. I am already over! I have a modest 910 items in my library and they are well under 1 MB each, on average. What can be done?

    Regards,

    Trevor
  • That just means you had files taking up much more space locally. See Storage Quota and Local Storage for an explanation (in a slightly different framing, but same idea).

No, you have lots of much larger files (e.g., 124 MB). You can create a search in your OS for PDFs within the 'storage' folder to get a flat list and sort by file size to find them. To find an attachment item in Zotero, paste the 8-character folder name into the search bar in All Fields & Tags mode.
  • I see your point. I ran a search and cut my 40 largest files and reduced my load by 1.27 GB. Afterwards, I thought that might cause troubles later. I assume when I click on that file on Zotero I will get a message "file not found" or something like that?

Also, will my storage update? I see it does not immediately reflect the reduction.
  • No, you have to delete the attachment item in Zotero and empty the trash.

    Already deleted, I'm afraid.
  • I don't know what you mean by that. I'm explaining that deleting files on disk doesn't do anything other than free space on disk. If you want to clear Zotero Storage space, you need to delete the attachment item, empty the trash, and sync.
  • What I meant was, I ran a search using Explorer and quickly 'cut' the 40 largest files, then put the contents in another folder (which I labeled 'large files from Zotero). I see that it has no effect on the size of my Zotero Storage, even though I cut 1.27GB.

What's done is done. What is the quickest way to get Zotero to reflect the cuts?
  • Press + to expand all items, select the attachments with a grayed-out PDF icon, move them to the trash, and empty the trash.
  • Where do I press + to expand all items?
  • Click any item and press + on the keyboard.
  • I was able to expand my entire library, but none of the texts I cut are greyed out.

I'm referring to the PDF icon on the right, in the Attachments column. It will be grayed out if the file on disk is missing.
