Zotero 6.0.30 can't identify duplicate entries accurately

edited November 13, 2023
Hi, Zotero seems to recognize the duplicates only through matching Doi?
When I imported several conference abstracts, they are considered duplicate item by zotero, and presented in the "duplicate item" fold. After I giving them different doi, they disappeared from that fold.

What I only know is that 『Before being imported, they have the very different tittle but shared Doi, maybe because they are published on the same volumn. They also shared the issue number』
Can I make Zotero more smart to identify them correctly?

Thanks for your time(●'◡'●)
  • Two answers:
    1. No, you can't tweak how Zotero recognizes duplicates and
    2. While there are very much improvements that could be made to Zotero's duplication detection, the DOI behavior isn't one of them: DOIs are unique identifiers -- if you have two different items with the same DOI, that's a data issue and should be fixed (virtually all conferences now have individual DOIs for abstracts/papers, but where they do not, the DOI shouldn't be part of the metadata for individual abstracts, just the conference volume as a whole). Zotero's assumptions on this are correct.

Yes, I can't agree more that DOIs should be unique identifiers.

Zotero think 'one DOI to one item', it's most favorable situation that every conference paper has one abstract, one DOI.

However, sometimes one conference paper includes multiple conference abstracts on different topics, and these abstracts have no individual DOIs.
It happened, Like this conference article: 10.1089/ten.tea.2022.29025.abstracts

These abstracts are usually retrived from different databases, and they have totally different titles, so I wish different conference abstracts could be saved as separate items, as well as be free from duplicate-merging by Zotero.

It seems......changing the metadata manually to avoid merging may be my only choice.(::>_<::)
