I have a category directory in Zotero 6, and while I was storing literature in it, I suddenly found that this category directory had disappeared, and I couldn't find this directory in the recycle bin either.
A collection, you mean? A collection certainly wouldn't disappear, but you might have moved or deleted it by mistake.
If you just did this, you should be able to restore a deleted collection from one of the automatic backups. Note the specific instructions for restoring collections.
(Also note that the items are most likely still in your library root, even though you deleted the collection.)
A future version of Zotero will make it possible to restore a deleted collection from the trash.
