zotero7 beta48 can't delete reference item if there is only one citation in word

Zotero7 beta48 can't delete reference item when deleing the citation if there is only one citation in word 2019. No matter the form of citation is [1] or [1,2] or [1-4] or something else. (My system is win10 professional version 22H2)
Is this a bug or my own problem? Thank you.
  • Not clear what you mean here. See Steps to Reproduce for the kind of description we need.

Sorry,I didn't make it clear just now.
This problem occurs when inserting references in Word. The following are the specific steps to reproduce it.

    Steps to reproduce:
    1.start zotero7.beta48 and create a new word.
2.Enter some information in word to simulate inserting a reference, such as "12345".
3.For example, the cursor stays between 2 and 3, then click 'Add/Edit Citation' in the plug-in 'Zotero' in word, then insert one or cite multiple documents at the same time, then leave the cursor in the reference section and click 'Add /Edit Bibiliography', everything seems to be working fine until now.
4.Delete all the citations just inserted between 2 and 3, and then click 'Refresh' in the 'Zotero' plug-in list of word. The result is that the citation number is deleted, and the reference information in the reference cannot be deleted.
5.The situation mentioned in point 4 only occurs when there is only one citation in word, whether it contains one reference or multiple references.
  • I'm still not sure what you mean. We really need the kind of description on the linked page: literally every thing you're typing or clicking, what you see on screen, and what you expect to see. You skipped lots of things you would've had to do (e.g., picking a citation style).

If it's easier, you can make a screenshot recording, upload it somewhere (Google Drive, Dropbox, etc.), and provide a link here.
  • Hello, in order to better explain the problem, I have shared a compressed folder, including the pdf format documents used, test word, and reproduction instructions.

  • OK, thanks. So you're just saying that if you've inserted a bibliography and delete the last citations in the document, the reference isn't deleted from the bibliography.

That's not new in Zotero 7 — it happens in Zotero 6 too. It's a bug, I guess, but it also just doesn't make a lot of sense as a thing to do. A Zotero bibliography is a representation of Zotero citations in the document. If you delete all citations, there's nothing for the bibliography to show, but if there's nothing to show, there can't really be a bibliography placeholder in the document at all. So the options are 1) leave the bibliography alone until there's a new citation (which leaves an outdated bibliography), 2) show some placeholder text ("[Insert Zotero citations to create a bibliography.]" or something), or 3) delete the bibliography (which would require the user to insert a bibliography again later).

We're doing 1 now. I think 2 or 3 would be better, but if you're not going to continue using Zotero in the document, you should just delete the bibliography. And if you are going to continue using Zotero, it will fix itself as soon as you insert another citation.
