Cannot download articles on Mac :-(

Hi I have been downloading articles for a long time and had no problem. Recently, it began asking me if I wanted to download on this particular website for one day or every website. I decided which one and it seemed to work ok....until tonight. Now it will not download articles from any website.
  • I just noticed the upgrade storage button and clicked it. I problem I asked about above, does that mean I have reached the max for free and now have to pay for it?
  • It's unlikely this is related to storage -- when used regularly, Zotero saves locally and you can always save.
Can you step back a bit and say exactly what's (not) happening and on which site(s) (provide specific links/URLs)
  • When I am merging duplicates is that freeing up storage? How can I free up storage?
  • It can under specific circumstances, but reliably only deleting attachments and emptying the trash frees up storage but, again, storage is almost certainly not the issue here.

Your current % usage of your online storage quota is shown here under Current Usage:
    https://www.zotero.org/settings/storage
  • But to say this one more time as clearly as I can:
Even if you have maxed out your free storage, you can still download articles and attachments to Zotero

Please provide examples of URLs for articles that you cannot download.

Please specify if the download problem is the PDF file, the article metadata, or both.

Recently, it began asking me if I wanted to download on this particular website for one day or every website.
I'm puzzled by this message. Adam, is this a Zotero message? I've never seen it.
  • I don't know. Unfortunately, HeatherDawn hasn't provided much in terms of details, in spite of several of us asking, so I don't even know what I'm troubleshooting
  • I assume this is about the Safari Connector, and @HeatherDawn is perhaps saying that they chose not to grant access to all websites, which is a new option for Safari App Extensions (which the Zotero Connector is) in macOS Sonoma.

@HeatherDawn, if that's the case, right-click on the toolbar button, choose Manage Extension, click Edit Websites, and make sure "For other websites" is set to "Allow". Then reload a page and try to save.

If you're still having trouble after that, we'll need you to provide the kind of description we ask for in Steps to Reproduce. We've had a lot of trouble in your various threads here just trying to understand what you're reporting, so we really need you to take the time to read these instructions and carefully write out exactly what you're doing, what's happening, and what you expected to happen.
  • D1258816253
    debug ID
  • Yes it is set to allow. I checked every website allow also and it still does not work.
  • what is happening step by step
I go to google scholar and find an article
    I open the article
it goes to the article's website
I click Zetoro to download it
Sometimes I get where I have choices, to allow for today only, allow always* and do not allow.
I click on either one day or always
    Nothing happens.
It does not matter which website the article is from
I still cannot download it to Zetoro.
Is that enough info for you?
    what else do you need?
  • I expect it to download the article in Zetoro like it has done for the last year or so
  • OK, that's better, though still some confusing bits

    I think this
Sometimes I get where I have choices, to allow for today only, allow always* and do not allow.
I click on either one day or always
are just cookie banners, which are unrelated to Zotero, so we can ignore this.

And by "download the article" you're referring to importing the article information into Zotero, which isn't happening? Or does that working and the problem is just the PDF not attaching?

Since you say nothing is happening, I'm guessing the former, so let's try this on a simple page: When you go to
    https://journals.plos.org/plosone/article?id=10.1371/journal.pone.0272450
and click the save to Zotero icon -- does that work? If not, we'd like a Debug ID from the Zotero connector that capture that failure.

By the way -- is this a language issue? Your English seems perfectly fine, but I find it really befuddling that this is now the 3rd thread where we have to basically *beg* you to provide more than one sentence of description for an issue for which *you* are seeking help, so if you _are_ more comfortable writing in a different language, please feel free to do so.
  • I just posted this so what is the problem

  • I went to the link you said to. No it will not let me download to Zetoro. When I click on the icon it shows me "manage extensions" when I go there I have everything marked as allow.
  • By download I mean transfer the article to Zetoro.
  • Is that clear now?
    Need anything else?
  • I can download pdf but that does not put it in Zetoro. And nothing goes to Zetoro. There is no title, author, etc. in Zetoro.
  • Now do you have enough info to help me?
  • Sorry, I can't help. I've tried best as I could, but it doesn't appear like I (or anyone else here) is able to communicate with you in a productive way. I'm going to give you the benefit of the doubt and assume that you're just having a hard time communicating online and are not actually as dismissive and rude as your posts sound, but this isn't a feasible way of providing support. I recommend you find someone to help you locally, e.g. through your university's library, or I guess find a different tool.
  • Here is more links that does not let me put anything into Zetoro.

If I could post a screen shot I would.
When I go to extensions and to Zetoro there is a note that says
Permissions: with a picture of a hand
"This extension can read and alter webpages you visit and see your growing history on all websites. This includes sensitive information from webpages, including phone numbers, and credit cards.

Above that is a private browsing: and it is checked to allow private browsing.

Below the hand message it says "You can changes this in the Websites section of Safari Settings. then a button that says Edit Websites. So I click it.

In the website of Zotero Connector everything is set to allow.
  • Ok well I just got frustrated enough to look into the Pop-up Windows under websites and unblocked Zetoro.
Now it seems to be working so far.
How that got blocked is beyond me.
But now it works, so maybe this information might help you when someone else has similar problems.
I am sorry if I did not explain well enough.
I had no idea what info you needed.
  • Now can I make some privacy for the websites I go to? I do not like the idea of websites being able to see my phone numbers and credit card info?
    thanks
