Completely messed up my syncing, no idea what I've done. Please help!

Ouput/Debug ID? D833489168

I am not tech savvy and have been messing with my Zotero settings and now I think it's all ruined and can't work out how to restore it! I will try and outline what exactly I've done...

I was trying to set up a new workflow and wanted to see my PDFs that are stored on my desktop Zotero within Zotero app on my ipad.

Quickly realised I didn't have enough storage (over the free 300mb limit) and consulted youtube for a work around.

A few videos later this is what I (think) I did - I changed the settings to store the data within Zotero and specified a path to access pdfs from a designated folder in gdrive

All cool ... except, this didn't translate/work in the Zotero app - like I say I'm not a tech person but something to do with gdrive not having webdav url???

Ok so I couldn't be bothered with anymore faffing - it was too complicated for me so paid for extended storage with Zotero

I (again think) I changed my storage settings back to the original locations (Zotero) and deleted the gdrive folder with all the pdfs.

Went to zotero after restarting/syncing. PDFs are still showing as links - tried numerous things like fetching pdfs (I have scihub ext) and move rename?? Tries resetting things on settings

consulted numerous forums and I think i've got to the point now where I've clicked, resynced, reset so many things I don't know what I've done or how to fix it!

All i'd like to do is somehow redownload any available PDFs for references in my libary and have both the data and files stored on Zotero so they sync across both my PC (mac) and ipad

Is there a kindhearted and patient person who can help me?

In the future, I'd strongly encourage you to just post here if you're having trouble with something instead of following online tutorials and changing settings you don't fully understand. We're happy to help, but it's much harder to do that once things are a mess (and possibly deleted permanently).

You can convert linked files to stored files — if that's what you're trying to do — from Tools → Manage Attachments → Convert Linked Files to Stored Files, but the files would have to actually exist. I'm not sure why you deleted the external folder while those files were linked to Zotero, but if you can undelete that, you should. You can delete it once you've reverted to stored files in Zotero.
