"Error: Selected field SsyYUb not returned from Docs backend

Here's the error I get. I've submitted the report (Report ID: 183793034)

[JavaScript Error: "Error: Selected field SsyYUb not returned from Docs backend
at Zotero.GoogleDocs.ClientAppsScript.cursorInField (chrome-extension://ekhagklcjbdpajgpjgmbionohlpdbjgc/zotero-google-docs-integration/clientAppsScript.js:420:9)
at async Object.editField (chrome-extension://ekhagklcjbdpajgpjgmbionohlpdbjgc/zotero-google-docs-integration/googleDocs.js:120:16)" {file: "[object Object]"}]

Any thoughts? Please help! Thanks!
  • Try disabling all other browser extensions and reloading Google Docs.
  • I've tried multiple times and I'm still seeing this issue. What else can I do? Thanks
  • Are you trying to edit an existing citation, or insert a new one? If you are trying to update text that says {Updating}, you will likely get this error. You need to remove it and try inserting a citation again. If this happens in a new document while inserting a citation, you certainly have to try with other browser extensions disabled.
  • I've tried both, multiple times. I've disabled all other browser extensions.

I'm getting a slightly different error message now. When I insert a citation a window comes up which says "Zotero is updating your document" which never leaves (I've waited for 10-20 minutes multiple times). If I close the Google Doc, and reopen, then go to the place of the citation I see the {Updating} thought now I get this error when I click on the updating

"Selected field Fcm3cL not returned from Docs backend"

Any idea what could be going on?

    Thanks,
    Dave
  • Make sure you look through open Zotero windows when this occurs. You should see a document preferences or citation dialog when the message is displayed. If you don't see one, produce a Debug ID from Zotero after restarting Zotero and your browser for an attempt to cite.
