Using two zotero libraries on one computer

Hello,

I have used Zotero for a year and a half and love it. I am research assisting and would like to create a Zotero library for the writer I'm helping. I would like to be able to build this library on my own computer.

A few questions: a) Is it possible to access more than one Zotero library on my computer? Is there a way to sign out of my Zotero library and into a new one? b) The entries in this new library will all have attached files. Will I need to transfer the library back and forth to his computer using a memory stick, because the sync function won't work with attached files? Is this correct?

I am trying to get around using a group library for this project, because I used that function once before and it didn't support attaching files to citations, and also had trouble syncing (other group members would create citations and I wouldn't see them). If there are ways around these issues and you think I should create a group library, let me know.

  • a) yes. The easiest way to do that is to switch the Zotero storage folder location in the advanced tab of the Zotero preferences back and forth between two location. After each switch you will have to restart Firefox (that's your login-logout process).

    b) attachments do sync - you just need sufficient storage place either using Zotero storage or a WebDAV server - search the documentation for file syncing. Using the memory stick will work, too, though.

I still think that going with a group library is your best option, but if you don't want to do that a) is the way to go.

Group libraries now support file syncing using Zotero storage.
  • Hi both,

Great - thanks so much for your help. I think we will go with a group library, given the file syncing possibility.
