Trouble adding Endnotes to document

When I scroll in my text to the place I want to insert a citation, Zotero does not always place the number there, but it gives me the red box for the citation. Why isn't the number appearing? I made it through 1-5 but can't get 6 to appear. Thanks.

    I don't quite understand - you need to add the citation (via the red box) before the Endnotes with the citation appears?
