Stanford Encyclopedia of Philosophy translator not working for supplements

Debug ID: D1028111394

The SEP translator seems to not be working for "supplement" entries. Steps to reproduce:

1. Go to any SEP supplement page, for example:
https://plato.stanford.edu/entries/carnap/tolerance-metaphysics.html
https://plato.stanford.edu/entries/ontological-commitment/supplement.html

2. Click on "Save to Zotero". Translator is listed as "Stanford Encyclopedia of Philosophy".

3. I get "An error occurred saving with Stanford Encyclopedia of Philosophy. Attempting to save using Embedded Metadata instead." (Saving using embedded metadata is successful, but the entry is missing author names, source, etc.)

The error does not occur for "main" SEP pages (e.g. https://plato.stanford.edu/entries/carnap/index.html). I've reproduced the error using the Zotero Connector for both Chrome and Safari.
  • Thanks. I'll look into that.
  • @duracell34, @adam3smith,

The current translator, by importing the BibTeX citation format, uses bookSection as the type of the item. Is it desirable to change it to encyclopediaArticle, which I feel is more precise?
  • @duracell34, in addition, I'd like to know what should the desired output (Zotero item) of a single supplement look like, from the POV of the user.

A supplement, as I understand it, is part of the encyclopedia entry, and the SEP itself doesn't provide standalone citations for it as such.

I can see the following possible alternatives -

    1. Identify the main entry, generate Zotero item as usual, and add the current page (the supplement) as an attachment in the manner of a snapshot.
    2. Create a Zotero item using the authorship and date info of the main entry, but for title and URL, we take them from the supplement. The supplement becomes a standalone item.

Let me know which one makes more sense. New ideas are also welcome. Thanks!
