Style update request: American Society for Horticultural Science

I'm using the American Society for Horticultural Science style in my dissertation and recently noticed some details that should be addressed. I'm using the latest style guide as my reference. https://cdn.ymaws.com/ashs.org/resource/resmgr/publications/ashspubsstylemanualweb.pdf

This is what I'm seeing now that is missing:

1. For Magazine Article: Period after the title of the article and period after the name of the magazine are missing. Example: Alden M, Faust J. 2021a. Don’t be late GrowerTalks 85:50–51.

2. For Patents: Should also include the Patent Assignee and Patent number, file date, and issue date.

3. Conference Papers: Seems like the Conference name should be included after the title of the article, plus a conference date. Although I had trouble finding the proper way to cite these.

4. For several types including Journal articles and Magazine articles:
Period after the 1st author's first name initial and before the comma for subsequent authors is missing. Example: Dole J, Grant, Sawaya M, McCall I, Fisher P. 2018. New Poinsettias for 2018 — How Did They Perform? Greenhouse Product News 28.

Also, period after all author's first name initial and middle initial missing.
Example: Benson DM, Hall JL, Moorman GW, Daughtrey ML, Chase AR, Lamour KH. 2002. The history and diseases of poinsettia, the Christmas flower. Plant Health Progress. 3(1):18.

I have also had trouble with the proper way to cite University Extension service publications. I am currently just using journal article, but they don't have journal names, or volumes or issues. Just a publication number.

You all have helped me before with this particular style. I think the style was updated in my previous request for help, but I'm a little confused because the "damnation" said they created a new style. https://raw.githubusercontent.com/citation-style-language/styles/629d3f18cf4ed870decc7302812ddec5871ce21f/american-society-for-horticultural-science.csl

But was the original style also updated? https://www.zotero.org/styles?q=id:american-society-for-horticultural-science

Just wanted to make sure the right style gets updated and that I'm using the right one....

This was my previous request that got solved. https://forums.zotero.org/discussion/104950/style-update-request-american-society-for-horticultural-science#latest

Thank you all so much for the help. This forum is awesome.
  • You could've just continued in your previous thread.

The link I had given you was for the style while it was in draft. The Pull Request has since been merged, so the style on the repository is the same as of May 13, 2023.

I'll look into those issues over the coming weeks.
  • Ah - next time I will just continue the thread. And I did notice the style was updated 5/13 so I suspected that the new changes were there but wasn't sure exactly how all that worked.

    Thank you so much!
  • @emilysteng -- I don't quite understand what you mean by this?
period after all author's first name initial and middle initial missing.
(and other references to periods after author initials missing).

I don't see any such periods in the instructions for authors -- could you give an example of what you think this should look and a reference to why?
  • Hi @adamsmith. You're right. I must have been looking at the older style manual or something. I could have sworn I saw the periods in the newest updated style manual but I just looked again and you're right, there are no periods. I must be losing it! Thank you.
  • Hello! @adamsmith and @damnation - I was wondering if either of you has gotten a chance to look at these changes to the style yet? I know my #4 is not needed, but I believe #1-3 are needing changes?

I'm sure you are busy and I appreciate the time you take fixing these issues!!
