Link citations in existing document

Hi all,
I know it might not be possible to do this with the existing setup, but I was wondering if there are new developments or if there is a known workaround that people could share.

I have a word manuscript with about 170 citations in Nature citation style, but it is all in plain text, there is no link between the numbers in the text and the corresponding references in the bibliography. Is there any way to create this link so that eventually, I can edit all these citations (i.e., change the citation style) in zotero?

Surely this problem has appeared many times and someone will have created some code to link the superscript number appearing in the text to the same number appearing in the bibliography, and putting this out in some way that can be recognised by citation managers... must be, right? I didn't find it though, and I would very much appreciate any help there!

Thank you!
  • important clarification: I would like this to be done automatically, so that I wouldn't have to compare all these numbers to the bibliography and create all the zotero citations manually
  • Nothing I'm aware of, no. It's certainly not a trivial problem to solve with the need to both match the number and parse the bibliography entries.
  • all right - thank you! I do think it would be super helpful to somehow create this function ....just in case there was a wishlist for future development!
