No Add-in in Microsoft 365 Word

Good Afternoon,

After exhaustively searching the topic, I am still not having any luck making the add-in icon appear in my Microsoft 365 version of Word.

To date, I have tried:
1. Walking through each step of the "Zotero toolbar doesn't appear" instructions.
- I can see that the plug-in is enabled and I have tried re-installing it multiple times with a "success" indication from Zotero each time.

2. Manual installation of the Zotero.dotm file.
- I can see that the Zotero.dotm file is in my STARTUP directory. It is recognized by Word in the add-ins section as a template.
- I can see the Macros from Zotero under the Developer -> Macros tab.
- I have verified and re-added the STARTUP directory to my trusted locations.
- Zotero.m is "checked" in the Templates and Add-ins section
- I have renamed my Normal.dotm file to Normal.dotm.bak to generate a new normal template.

Additional Details:
- I am on an educational institution computer with Admin rights.
- I am running Microsoft 365 Word from the desktop.

Any additional suggestions you might have would be more than appreciated. Thank you for your time and support.
  • Did you do the things under "If Zotero.dotm is present and ticked in the Templates and Add-ins window" in the documentation?

Beyond that, either the tab itself is hidden (e.g., I believe there's an overflow menu accessible via some arrows if you have too many ribbon tabs or your window is too narrow) or there's some institutional policy blocking the add-in from running despite showing as loaded in Templates and Add-ins.

Thank you very much for the response. I've tried the things under the "If Zotero.dotm is present and ticked in the Templates and Add-ins window" section and have looked for a hidden tab with no luck. Looks like I may be one of the unfortunate ones with the institutional problem. My current workaround is to create a custom tab and run the macros from there. Not ideal, but it's getting the job done for now.

I appreciate the response and if you think of anything else in the future, your insight is much appreciated.

    Thanks again.
