Upgrade StorageAnnotations with extra spaces

I'm not sure if this issue has a specific name or description, which is what has made it difficult to find if there is a resolution already listed. When I use the highlighting feature on a pdf within zotero, the resulting annotation will display like below (same for when I copy/paste):
Annotation: "Clients of ten change their goals as treatment progresses (or fails to progress), from harm reduc tion to absti nence or the other way around. Changing ad dic tive be hav ior is of ten a complex and com pli cated process for both client and ther a pist"
Is there a way to address this within the pdf so that I don't have the spaces?
