Importing problem

Hi all,

I am trying to import my Mendeley Desktop (so pre-Elsevier takeover) inventory to Zotero, to compare the two applications. However, I've found that about half of the pdf files are not transfered from Mendeley to Zotero: I get the error message ¨No pdf found¨. Is there a way to get these pdfs on Zotero anyway, without having to manually transfer all the pdfs?

Thank you all in advance!

By the way, I'm doing this by using the ¨Copy As¨ -> BibTex function on Mendeley, and then importing it from the clipboard on Zotero, and finally looking for pdfs.
  • Why are you not using the official Mendeley import function? https://www.zotero.org/support/kb/mendeley_import

That'd get you everything (including annotations, etc.) across.
Getting the PDFs via Mendeleys (horribly broken) BibTeX export should in principle be possible, but it's... wonky. (Also, better to do with export/import than via the clipboard)
  • Hi Adam, thanks for your quick reply. If I choose the Mendeley import function, I only get the files that I had under my own collection in Mendeley, and not the group files I wanted to import. Sorry for forgetting to mention that!
  • Would copying them to your personal library in Mendeley be an option?

Otherwise, can you post an excerpt of the bibtex file that includes a file that does not properly transfer and one that does here?
