Word file with Zotero citations into Google doc

Does anyone know if it's possible to upload a Word doc with Zotero citations into Google docs and preserve the citations? Can Zotero in Google docs recognize citations from the Word doc?

All the info I've see for Google docs starts with adding new citations in, not preserving already existing cites from Word.
