Zotero cites Titlel of book instead of author

Citing in continuous Text: Even if i have my citation-settings set on Author, Date; Zotero cites the title instead. For example:

„Sozialarbeit“ (“Wer geht leer aus? Plädoyer für eine andere Leerstandspolitik”, 2014, p. 78) instead of (Hejda, 2014, p. 78).

Can ayone help me?
  • Which citation style are you using?

Make sure you have Willi Hejda, Anna Hirschmann, Raphael Kiczka and Mara Verlič added as authors/editors for your item though.
  • Thanks for the response. I tried your advise but it did not work.
I use Chicago Manual of Style 17th edition (author-date).
For a better understanding: I drag and drop marked textpassages into the notes section. Zotero gives me the Title of the book instead of the Authors in the automatic citation. If I click on "edit citation" and the search bar appears, the book is cited correctly as set in the settings with author, year, page. Strange..
    thank you
  • Can you step back and explain more precisely what you are doing and where? I'm having a hard time understanding.
  • Ok, I use Zotero to extract an cite textpassages. I underline textpassages and use the drag and drop funktion to extract them into the notes section regarding the Paper or book. Now the problem is, that the automatically generated citation does not give me the format as set with the citation style Chicago Manual of Style 17th edition (author-date), where the author should be named and not the booktitle. So instead of: "Sozialarbeit" (Hejda, 2014, p. 78) Zotero gives me (“Wer geht leer aus? Plädoyer für eine andere Leerstandspolitik”, 2014, p. 78).
Strange is, that if I click on "edit citation" and the search bar appears, the book is cited correctly (author, date, page).
  • Got it. The parenthetical citations in notes follow no particular citation style -- see them as placeholders. If you add the note to a Word doc using the word processor add-on's "Add Note", they will take on the proper citation format
