Separately titled Volume in a Multi-volume work with general editors

I am brand new to Zotero.

I followed this link to figure out how to include a volume reference: http://www.zotero.org/support/kb/edited_volumes_and_book_chapters

However, I am a slow learner. Yes, I admit it.

How do I get the book section to automatically fill in the data from the original volume?

Do I have to retype everything again?

Thanks.

If you select the item and right-click on it, there is a "Duplicate selected item" option in the popup menu. You can use that the clone the entry, and you only need to add the info for the volume.

(EDIT: I missed an issue with the need to migrate text across fields when switching from the book to the book section type, picked up below by adamsmith.)
  • we should add this to the documentation.
  • Ok.

I made a duplicate of the book.

I now have two copies of the same bibliographic information without the separate chapter information written by another author.

I am slow on the uptake. Sorry.

Please make this really easy for me.

I clicked on the book. I hit add duplicate item. Now, how/where do I include the separate information for the author's chapter?
  • ah this hasn't been changed yet - it's going to be in the next update of Zotero.

For now, first you click on "Book" in the item type field and then change it to "Book Section".
Then you will have to copy and paste what's in the "title" field into the "Book Title" field and then write the chapter title into the title field.

With the next update, the information from the title field will automatically move to the book title field as you change the item type from Book to Book section.
