Transfer document with already included Zotero links into a group library use

Newby question! Sorry, if this might have already been asked, I couldn't quite find a solution to my problem and I am scared that my previous work might blow up, because I messed us..

I was currently working on a huge paper with many pages in MS-Word and about 200 existing entries (linked via Zotero to my personal library) BY MYSELF.
Now I need to include my co-author into my previous work and enable her to collaborate.

1. How can I transfer my existing sources from my personal library to our shared group library? Are by dragging all my sources into the shared library and syncing it, the links in my existing working document also transferred, so that my co-author can start working on it as well? Are the quotes, linked in the document now also connected to the group library for future work together?

2. How is your recommended workflow? Is a shared dropbox to save the word document the best way to collaborate, while using the shared group library in the background?

Thanks for your help.

    No.

Dragging collections and items is correct, but it wouldn't make sense for that to automatically update a document's citations, since the citations need to be linked to a single source — otherwise every time one of you refreshed it might update the document with different metadata.

We're currently working on a way to manually relink a document's citations to use dragged items from another library or transfer embedded citations from a document to a group library and relink to those.

For now, the best option when you didn't start in a group library is just to let the person who originally added the citations edit the metadata in Zotero as necessary. Others can still reuse those citations (without them registering as different citations) by selecting from the Cited section of the citation dialog search results — the only limitation is that others wouldn't be able to edit the original metadata for those items. For new items, you'd all want to select from the same group library.
  • Ok. Thanks for your helpful advices.
