Folder disappeared

Hi there,
A few minutes after adding a new item to a folder, I suddenly discovered that the entire folder was missing. The folder contained numerous items accumulated over several years. I have been through a few discussion forums but have not found a solution that worked.
I searched all the other folders, including the trash, to ensure it was not inadvertently moved, but to no success. It does not appear on the web version of Zotero either.
I would greatly appreciate your urgent assistance in resolving this matter.
Thanks!
  • It looks like you deleted a whole bunch of collections today, presumably by mistake.

If this just happened, you should be able to restore deleted collections from one of the automatic backups. Note the specific instructions for restoring collections. If there are subcollections as well, you'll need to follow the steps for each one.

Also note that the items would still be in your library root, even though you deleted the collection.

A future version of Zotero will make it possible to restore a deleted collection from the trash.
  • Thank you. I've just seen this response. I've checked the instructions but the zotero.sqlite.bak files are only from the last couple of days. Does this mean that the folders I lost are gone now?

Yes, I'm afraid so, unless you have some other incremental backup of your data directory (e.g., with Time Machine on a Mac).

Again, though, all the items should still be in your library.
