a reference in bibliography list and not in text

While working on my my dissertation, I have found that there is a reference in the bibliography list which is not in the text. How can I remove it?

Try switching styles first. If that doesn't help do the following.

If you're not already using a numeric style, switch to Vancouver to help you identify the general area where this stray citation stems from.
Turn on field codes (see https://www.zotero.org/support/kb/word_field_codes) and search for the citation. Delete any remnants. Turn field codes off again.
