Cannot quick add using ISBN in Zotero

I tried adding this ISBN 9788771296877 to Zotero using the Quickadd button. The book is in Danish. I have the same problem with other Danish books.

I confirmed I can add some English using ISBN.

I also confirmed, that the I can find the book in the Worldcat catalogue using the ISBN.

https://www.worldcat.org/

I tried different networks to see whether it was a network problem.

How can I make it work with the ISBN number adding.
  • Thanks, I can replicate this -- adding ISBNs from Worldcat appears broken.

    @AbeJellinek See debug D1618531613 -- I'm getting a 403 on the unofficial API call
  • On it, thanks.
  • I can't reproduce this with that ISBN in Z7 beta. @adamsmith, are you still able to reproduce on your end? It's possible that it was just a temporary issue.
  • Yes, still the same. Also getting 403 for https://www.worldcat.org/api/search?q=bn:978-87-7129-687-7 directly in my browser.
    FWIW, like (presumably) the OP, I'm currently in Europe, I wonder if that matters? I can try using VPN tomorrow.
  • Interesting, OK. I don't have access to a European VPN, so if you'd be able to test with a US one, that would be helpful!

    (Getting a 403 for that URL in the browser is normal - we add some required headers when making the request from the translator.)
  • Yes, that is likely the issue: I'm able to add the item on my remote desktop in the US and immediately afterwards fail to do so on my EU-based laptop, both running the 7.0.0 beta.26 version. I'm in Europe for a couple more weeks, happy to help troubleshoot, including getting on a Zoom call w shared screens.

    Also, ($&%$#(!@# OCLC
  • OK, finally managed to reproduce. This seems to be Cloudflare-related - not really an EU thing except that some EU IPs look suspicious to their heuristics. Looking into it.
  • I can add that this is also happening in New Zealand.
