Feature request (or question) - prefix placement

When I use "e.g.," or "see" in a citation that has multiple cited items in it, I nearly always want the prefix to come at the beginning of the series of cited items. This isn't a big deal when I first input the citation as I just wait until I have inserted all of the items and then edit the one that is sorted as first. But if I then go to edit the citation, I need to pay attention to ensure that I delete the prefix and relocate it into the new first item.

Is there any way to have prefixes (and possibly suffixes) associated with the citation rather than the item? If not, I would request that as a very useful feature.
