I cannot select text in a PDF in Zotero editor
I want to annotate a PDF inside the Zotero editor in order then to create the note with the annotations. This feature is convenient since I can import these notes into other note-taking apps like Notion and Obsidian. When opened the PDF with Zotero I cannot select any text in order to highlight it. However, when I open the PDF with an external editor I can select the text and highlight it, something that makes me think that the PDF is not in the correct format for the Zotero editor.
Since I could not find any solution for this, I tried to bypass it with the "Import Annotations" feature, but it also doesn't work as I wanted. When it converts the external highlights into Zotero highlights, they cannot be seen when the note is created based on the annotations.
How can I solve this issue?

martynas_bIs this a scanned PDF file where some lines have slightly rotated lines?
-
cgeorgakidisNo. It is a paper I downloaded from IEEE Xpress.
-
martynas_bCould you send the PDF file to support@zotero.org with a link to this thread?
-
martynas_bIt appears that the PDF file lacks an OCR text layer. If you are using Preview.app as your "external viewer," it's performing OCR on the text in real time.
