Unpredictable punctuation inside and outside quotes for citations with suffixes

I am using Zotero 6.0.26 with MS Word 365. I use a lot of foreign language quotations, so I include the original text in the footnote, in the suffix field. I put the foreign language text in double quotes, but never use a period at the end. Unfortunately, Zotero gives me inconsistent results sometimes with the period inserted inside the quotation marks, but sometimes outside. In the example below, I have included the same citation source with different suffixes, and I get different results.

How can I fix this so that the period is ALWAYS inserted inside the quotes?

(6) Zerbi, De cautelis medicorum, fol.

Thanks
  • This shouldn't happen but I'll note that for some reason to he quotes in the 2nd example are inconsistent: the opening one is typographic, the closing one straight
  • Here's another similar problem. The citation has a quotation included as a suffix. The suffix is <<; "sanare et ad convalentiam reducere">> Just to be clear, it's in one set of double quotes and there is no fullstop included. The resulting citation is <<Pomata, Contracting a Cure, 177; ‘sanare et ad convalentiam reducere’.>> So it has changed the quotation to single quotes and put the fullstop outside the quotes. I'm using Zotero for Windows 6.0.26 and Chicago 17th edition format. Any ideas? I've not been able to detect a pattern of when it puts fullstops inside or outside quotes, or uses single or double quotes.
