Editing footnotes manually
I am using Zotero to footnote a paper I'm writing, but have run into a problem. The journal I am going to be submitting to has its own in-house citation style which is not available on Zotero. So I need to go in and edit the footnotes manually to get them into the correct referencing style. However, when I edit these, Zotero advises me that this will prevent the programme from updating the citation if I add additional citations etc? How do I prevent this? Zotero is quite useful because it automatically updates cross references...

Note that if the style is quite similar to an existing style you are likely to get a good response by requesting that a style be modified:

edit: There is a waiting list for volunteers to create new styles. That said, if you are on a close deadline you may seek advice here and someone may show a way that you (yes, you [without much knowledge of programming]) can make a simple change or two to an existing CSL style to fit your needs. Just say exactly how you have been editing your manuscript to fit the reference style. Someone will say, "change the text of line #nn from this to that and save after changing the name identity of your new style". Then you can add the style you modified to the CSL collection and become a contributor. [Note, however, that some styles are very, very complex and this may not be possible.]
If all of this is too much I recommend that you do not edit as you progress through writing but wait until you have completed your work, clicked the Zotero field codes button, and have saved a working copy that contains the codes.
