Missing stored pdf files: how can I restore?

Hello,

I have used the sync cloud storage to transfer my zotero data to a new computer.

My old computer was handed back and I deleted the indexed folders with the stored pdf files but did not de-sync so I think part of the online stored files were alos deleted.

The good news is I have part of the stored files still for some reason while I deleted all folders on the old PC. The bad news is I have part of them missing. Zotero on my new computer has all the links to the missing pdf files. I can view them online but they are greyed.

How can I restore these greyed files to local storage?

There is a function in Tools -> Manage Attachments -> convert links to attachments but this is greyed too and not available.

Can you please advise how I can restore the greyed files without having to download them one by one and how I can attach downloads to the link?

Thanks

Nothing was deleted. You just weren't syncing files for extended periods of time (perhaps because you were at your file storage quota, which Zotero would've warned you about), so many files were never uploaded. I'm afraid your only options would be to either sync the computer where the files were actually added or restore from a backup you made of the Zotero data directory from that computer. Otherwise you'd have to re-download each PDF manually and Locate it from Zotero, which will copy it to the appropriate storage folder (after which you could delete the downloaded copy).

Nothing to do with linked files — all of your files are stored files.
