Zotero connector not working with new design for SAGE journals

Trying to import https://journals.sagepub.com/doi/full/10.1177/17407745221112001 to zotero using the Chrome extension Zotero Connector on Chromium 112.0.5615.49 on ubuntu 22.04.2. I get "An error occurred saving with SAGE Journals. Attempting to save using Atypon Journals instead.", which then fails as well. Just checked with a Springer Nature paper and that still saves fine. The SAGE page has a banner saying "A brand new look for SAGE!", so I'm assuming that's what broke it.
  • Not seeing that, working on all browser (I see the same banner, but I don't think their branding changes should affect the site structure)

Run through these as they apply and provide all missing info from the last step:

  • @dstillman could you take a look at the debug, please?

  • @AbeJellinek -- any idea here? I don't understand how the translator code can possibly fail the way it does -- it should be super robust to this kind of failure (and without being able to reproduce this in any browser, I don't know what to debug).

I don't know if the location is important (I am in Japan), but I can reproduce in Firefox (both on macOS and Linux)

    [Edit]

    If this helps:

From the current issue page: https://journals.sagepub.com/toc/CTJ/current
All items (10) can be saved from the connector (through the Atypon Journals translator)

But individually, as far as I can see, only https://journals.sagepub.com/doi/abs/10.1177/17407745221136970 can be saved (through the SAGE Journals translator)

I'm now able to reproduce this, working on a fix.
  • OK, I just pushed out the fix, this should start working again for you shortly.
  • I encountered the same error today. How should I apply the fix?
  • No need to apply. That would update automatically. URL?

Using the beta 7, Sage (with the new web UI) has been working fine for the past 10-15 days at least. Latest Firefox and Mac OS. Please provide that URL or the DOI.
  • Hi there,

Are there any updates on this string?

I am able to successfully grab the citation from the publisher's string. However, when I authenticate through my institution to get the PDF, the Zotero connector reads the page resulting page as a webpage. Wasn't sure if others are still experiencing this. I end up downloading a lot of PDFs and then associating them with the good grab from the pre-authenticated page.

As a note, I just updated my chrome and reinstalled the connector and am still experiencing the same thing.

    Thanks in advance,
    Rebecca
  • We'd need sample URLs for any issues. The problem originially reported in this thread was fixed more than a year ago.
  • Sorry - I wasn't sure if a link with my proxy would be suitable. Here's the link to the authenticated version: https://journals-sagepub-com.proxy.library.nyu.edu/doi/epub/10.1509/jm.11.0145

Here is the publisher's page, which Zotero can grab easily: https://journals.sagepub.com/doi/abs/10.1509/jm.11.0145

I toggled between the epub and the pdf format - and neither is recognized by the Connector.
