DOI field should be available for all types

I'd like to understand if there's a specific reason why the DOI attribute is not available for every item type in Zotero. We specifically need it for map items, but it should be available for everything. The use of DOIs as a persistent, resolvable identifier has expanded tremendously since their creation. They are now used for just about everything imaginable. I'm not saying that was a perfect technical choice, but we can likely find examples of DOIs being used to identify every type in Zotero's current classification scheme.
